The first several years at this church I would have said- a family of families and a wonderful place for our family to grow. Then we started to see signs of the unhealthiness at the heart of the church, but we stayed and we prayed because- what church is perfect? Then a youth was sexually assaulted by a young man in the church. At first it was believed to just have been unwanted aggressive sexual texts, but then discovered there were actual physical assaults. The pastor and leaders went above and beyond to hide it, after kicking several families out who knew, they finally decided to remove the young man temporarily from the church....and the girl. Because what is better than victimizing the victim? Then the young man can seem less accountable and less guilty. The "Godly" men who lead have been successfully manipulated by a wonderful manipulator, but if the Holy Spirit resides in them then I know there is a layer of conviction in the dark quiet hour. And I pray that seed of conviction grows. It is NEVER too late to stand up and be the man of God he calls you to be. If God is for us, who can be against us?

"If someone says, "I love God," but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is a liar; for if we don't love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?" 1 John 4:20

Before you read this, please know that I am not seeking vengeance, I'm not angry, I'm not hurt, and I'm not out to get this church, it's staff or it's members. I had to pick some number of stars to be able to leave comments. If you are currently a member of Midway Baptist Church, PLEASE seriously consider that there is another version to what you are hearing and reading has happened. I've watched the onslaught of 5 star and 1 star reviews with both interest, puzzlement, and sometimes sadness. We attended Midway for a very long time, so I am confident that many current, and former members are earnestly praying. Please also pray about asking those who've been dismissed from church membership, what their experience was. Please read Jonathon Clark's review before it is removed. In the gospel of Matthew the Bible tells us to love our neighbor as ourselves. If you were dismissed from a church you'd attended for 5-25 years, and you'd been a respected member of that congregation until you were dismissed, wouldn't you want to be asked the reasons and/or motives behind your actions? Lastly please consider that the families who met with leadership and then left and/or were dismissed, are also people who love the Lord Jesus, are seeking to do the right thing, and to live their lives in an an excellent way. I'm not trying to garner any support or sympathy. I AM, however asking for you to pray, ask questions, and think it through thoroughly before you choose to believe that those who no longer attend Midway or who don't leave 5 star reviews, are taking up offenses or are spreading bitterness. If you have talked to the involved families, those who've been dismissed and/or those who've left after years of faithful attendance, and still think that the they/we are seeking to be divisive or are being ungodly, then we can respectfully disagree and continue doing our best to reach out to the hurting, lost, and wounded people in our community who help, and need to know that Jesus is the answer.

It's been almost ten years since I attended Midway Baptist Church. I grew up there, from the time I was five until my senior year of high school. I loved the people of this church. You will meet some of the sweetest, kindest, most willing to serve, and Christ-following people there. However, I cannot recommend this church to anyone anymore because I have found that the problem with Midway is not its people but its leadership. I am speaking from my own family's personal experience of being hurt by this church's leadership. While it was hard to leave the only church family I had ever known, what I found is that there are many wonderful, Jesus-loving people out there and churches that will preach the Word of God. There is freedom outside of Midway because there is Jesus outside of Midway. His power is not limited exclusively to its four walls or to the teaching of its pastor. I have heard some of the testimonies of families that have been hurt by Midway's leadership, and I have this to say, these are not hateful people but hurt people. They are hurt because they loved and served in a church that did not think twice about removing them when they started to ask hard questions or stopped being useful. Some people will never know or understand what I am talking about, and I think that is wonderful. I pray that those people and their families never experience that kind of hurt. For those of us who are recovering from Midway, I want to encourage you and say welcome to the other side.

As other people have said, this church has many wonderful and generous families who serve others and the church. However, the leadership takes advantage of people's generosity. They say you should "use your God given talents" to serve the church, the pastor, the pastor's family and in-laws, etc. for free when they tell you to do so. And when you don't? They verbally attack you and/or your family in front others and behind your back. They create rumors to destroy your reputation accusing you or your family of terrible things, yet when someone dares to speak the truth they scream "slander" and "the pastor is under attack." If the rumors and "church discipline" don't work, the good ole "Dr." himself will show up at your place of work and DEMAND you do what he says. And when you refuse to cower to his intimidation? He will throw a tantrum yelling things such as "liar" and "little man." Don't worry though. This is just the reactions of king toad frog discovering that his croak doesn't travel very far.

So please, learn from people and families who experienced all these things firsthand. Don't put your family in such an abusive place. It's takes years and years to begin to trust a church and/or pastors ever again. But thank God for the healing He brings when you finally pass through the "midway" and reach the other side.

Psalm 30:1-5 " I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me. O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit. Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes in the morning."

  • Midway Baptist Church is a fantastic church! My wife and I are members and we have been attending for nearly 6 years. The ministers and the families of this church continue to be such a blessing to us both. Everyone is always so friendly, welcoming, loving, and encouraging. The preaching, teaching, and all around worship present at each church service and bible study is always Biblical and Christ centered. There are incredible ministries for all age groups, from kids, to teens, to young adults, to senior adults. Whether you are wanting to come to trust Jesus as your savior, or you are a new Christian looking for a place to grow your faith, or a long time believer that wants to find a place to worship and serve with fellow believers, Midway Baptist is a great place to do all of the above. We are so blessed to be able to call Midway Baptist our church home!
